Preparation guide from Milborrow Chimney Sweeps

Your chimney sweep will lay a heavy duty tarpaulin sheet in front of your fireplace and use specially manufactured sweep’s soot cloths to shield the fireplace and retain the soot behind. We will be using state of the art equipment designed specifically for the job in hand and all our sweeps carry a vast variety of power cleaners, brushes, rods and scrapers to deal with all sizes of chimney flues and blockages.

How to prepare for your chimney sweep:
  • Remove all items from the mantel piece and hearth
  • Remove any un-burnt fuel
  • Cover soft furnishings
  • Remove valuable items from the room
  • Lay newspaper or old sheets from the door to the fireplace for the sweeps to walk on
  • If you see the brush emerge from your chimney pot, make a wish

If you have moved into a new home and are not sure when the chimneys were last swept, we will be happy to carry out a full inspection and survey. Milborrow Chimney Sweeps also stocks a comprehensive range of pots, bird guards, cowls and specialist chimney caps which your sweep will be happy to install for you. Let our experienced team know what you would like us to do and leave the rest to us.

Monday to Friday: 8am to 7pm
Saturday: 9am to 4pm
You will be given an approximate time when to expect your chimney sweep but please be patient if he is late. Overrunning jobs and heavy traffic can affect your booking time.

8am to 10am
9am to 12 noon
12 noon to 2pm
2pm to 5pm

When you have booked a chimney sweep, he has allocated the time and driven to your property. If no work can be undertaken he will be entitled to charge a fee for his call to cover time and petrol.
A chimney stack, pot and any cowls should be able to withstand a chimney sweeping, if for any reason a pot / cowl breaks or becomes dislodged during this process the sweep cannot take any responsibility.
However, in the unlikely event of an accident, Milborrow Chimney Sweeps will endeavor to replace and repair at a reduced charge to the home owner.
